This book is my bible to produce ideas.
It’s been more than 10 years since I read this book. I have been trying the 5 steps of producing ideas based on what I learn from this book. I have always achieved my goal of applying for a patent every 6 months.
Especially I like the definition of what an idea is.
An idea is nothing more nor less than a new combination of old elements.
This book is very short and costs less than $5, so I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in creating ideas.
A technique for producing ideas: A simple five step formula for producing ideas by James Webb Young
In addition to telling how to produce the ideas, the author wrote that the ability to bring existing elements into new combinations depends on the ability to find relationships between things. And he recommends studying social science to explore the relationship between things.
Here are 2 books he picked up to learn social science.
The Theory of the Leisure Class (Dover Thrift Editions) by Thorstein Veblen
The Lonely Crowd, Revised edition: A Study of the Changing American Character by David Riesman
Also, the author wrote that words are a symbol of ideas, so you can also collect ideas by collecting words.
And he picked up 3 books that are useful to understand the process of producing ideas very well.
The Art of Thought by Graham Wallas
Science and Method by Jules Henri Poincare
The Art Of Scientific Investigation by W. I. B. Beveridge
