This book is very thin, but the content is dense and organized. This book is similar to Book review: A technique for producing ideas by James Webb Young and Book review: How to get ideas by Jack Foster in terms of being very thin but dense in content. In addition to those masterpieces of creating ideas, I strongly recommend this book when you need a hint of how you will have ideas. As the subtitle of this book shows “A World-Class System for Creating Successful Business Ideas”. So I’m confident that you would find some tips to get ideas and brush up ideas.
Use subconscious mind
We have a subconscious mind in the right brain and a conscious mind in the left brain. And a right creative brain is at least 2 million times faster than our analytical left brain. Therefore we should use this wonderfully fast and creative right brain.
How to use the right brain
In order to use the subconscious mind, we need the right questions and sleep. Firstly we need to set a task for the right brain with appropriate questions and then the right brain will work in 24/7 even when we are sleeping.
Find the right questions that bring you ideas
Please note that if you don’t get answers to your questions, your question might not be appropriate. In other words, when you find a question, it means you almost get a solution.
5 Whys technique to find the right questions
How to find the right questions? The author shows “5 Whys” to change the abstraction layer of the question to search for the right questions.
5 Whys is the widely used technique described by Taiichi Ohno at Toyota Motor Corporation. The basis of Toyota’s scientific approach is to ask “Why” five times every time you find a problem. Repeating the why reveals not only the problem but also the solution.
Please find another layer of questions and let your subconscious mind try great ideas.
Modify or combine ideas

All ideas are either modifications or combinations of the old ones.
Don’t try to produce original ideas
We have to revisit this as the author also reminds us that we should not aim for our original idea. Instead, we should copy ideas and we don’t need to be perfect but stick with continuous improvement.

The author introduced SCAMPER which is a famous framework for brainstorming to create ideas.
