5 steps to prepare a business presentation
Here are the steps for how to prepare your presentation.
Before going to the detail of each step, I would like to make sure what is our goal.
What is a great business presentation?
I think a great presentation is
Address customer’s interests and concerns
Provide the right information at the right timing
Easy to understand and have a deeper understanding
Call for action
Target presentation
There are some kinds of presentations.
In this series of posts, I assume it is a business presentation for meeting with customers. So the main purpose of the meeting is to introduce our company & product, build a better relationship with a customer, and solve the customer’s problem.
My experience
This post is based on the experience that I’ve been working as a B2B marketing for more than 20 years. In addition, I usually made more than 100 presentations per year in many countries such as the United States, Europe, and Asia.
However, I’m not the No.1 presenter. When I score my presentation, my score might be around 70 points out of 100 points. Hopefully, I think it’s average or slightly better than average.
I have my own style of business presentation. I think each business person has their own style. I don’t want to say, my style is better than yours. I think we can improve our own style based on your preference and strength. One thing I want to say is that there are common mistakes that everyone has to avoid. If we can avoid that, we can get at least an average score then get more scores based on your style and strength.
I know we have a desire to be someone special such as Steve Jobs.
“The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs” is the best book to learn how to make a presentation like Steve.
Just take it and learn from him!
What you can get?
I hope you will find something to improve your presentation. I believe these posts may provide a hint for students, and beginners for less than 3 years’ careers in B2B marketing and also be good for veterans to remind the basics of business presentation.
I try to summarize my knowledge, experience, and best practice to guide you to learn presentation basics that can be used in real B2B business.
