A most common mistake for a business presentation.
Remember when you failed in a business presentation.
- You read the prepared script without looking at the audience?
- You couldn’t explain smoothly?
- You couldn’t prepare a nice presentation?
Sometimes that was the case especially when I was young.
But I think the most common mistake I often see is that the presenters talk too much and there are no questions or comments from the audience or customers.
So I think they like talking and they are confident to talk.
Actually, depending on the conference, there may be one-sided presentations because there is no time for Q&A.
Obviously talking too much is critical for a business presentation because customers might be boring or are not interested in the topics or knew what you talk about.
Presentation is actually listening, not talking.
If you let customers talk, they shouldn’t be boring and not interested in.
How shall we let customers talk?
Let’s collect customer information and make a plan.

How to deliver a business presentation
So you need to make slides to let the customer talk. How can we prepare slides?
If you can guess the customer’s concern or interest, prepare visuals to draw them. Please note that the important thing is you don’t need to propose the solution or your product that solves the customer’s concern. So you can just bring up customer’s concern or interest and let them talk.
Don’t persuade but let customers think
It is more effective to let customers think of the solution than to persuade. In other words, the customers are the best persons who can persuade themselves.
During their talk, if the customers say something wrong, don’t argue it. If you want to go to the same goal with the customers, there is no point to object it.
Instead, you can show an alternative solution based on your product or service and let the customers compare them. They will choose your product!
