What is a company?
Drucker says companies are not organizations that look for profit.
It is the customer who decides what a company is. In other words, the purpose of the company is to create and define customers.
So we should start with customers.
Marketing and Innovation are 2 functions
They are 2 basic functions of a company as Marketing and Innovation.
The first one is Marketing.
Druker defines Marketing as understanding our customers and tailoring our products & services to them. As a result, they will buy our products without our promotion.
Marketing is sometimes mixed with Sales.
- Sales start with our products. So Sales focus on what we want to sell.
- Marketing starts with our customers. So Marketing focuses on what customers want to buy
The second one is Innovation.
Innovation is not an invention nor a technical concept but creating new customer satisfaction. Please refer to “Dealing with Darwin by Geoffrey A. Moore“. We can learn 15 innovation types.

Building up a comfortable working place is the job of a manager.
The followings are essential for rewarding work.

Use individual strength and hide our weakness
The manager’s job is like the conductor of the orchestra.
Managers find the strengths of each member and use those strengths to maximize team performance.
On the other hand, managers need to prevent a member’s weakness from becoming a team’s weakness. Instead of asking individual team members to fix their weaknesses, work with other members who are good at it to hide their weaknesses as a team.

1. Set a goal.
2. Organize team
3. Motivate and communicate
4. Evaluate and measure.
5. Develop human resource
Should be playing manager
Management is a job and it doesn’t take as long as the manager has to concentrate. If managers don’t have enough work, it’s not good to get a job from their subordinates.
Therefore, the manager must be a playing manager.
