Everyone needs negotiation skills since we need to negotiate with someone every day in the office, at home, at a retail store, at a restrulant.
Here are the 4steps of principled negotiation.
“Separate the people from the problem”
“Focus on interests, not positions”
“Invent options for mutual gain”
“Insist on using objective criteria”
Personally speaking, when I was a freshman, I was a hard type negotiator at the office and at home. I couldn’t create a good relationship with a colleague, my wife because I stuck to my position.
Someone disliked me and I also didn’t like the guy who stuck to his/her position.
I read this book to get some negotiation skills and tried to change my negotiation style to soften.
Especially at home, even if you logically beat your wife, it loses!
Soft type negotiation style prioritizes relationship and if necessary compromise to have an agreement.
That’s what I need to learn. I know it’s not easy. I’m still on the way…
Anyway I’m glad to find this book.
