First of all, this book isn’t about learning how to advertise, but it’s a story of the author’s adventures on how he can work and grow in the advertising industry. However, we can learn some advertising examples in Medical, Automobile, Tire, Soap, Oats in this book.
Working hard and enjoying working
We can learn from his attitude how he is addicted to work and also enjoy working.
I have always been an addict to work. I love work as other men love play. It is both my occupation and my recreation.
I think it’s great to enjoy working. If I ask about myself, I think I enjoy my work, but I doubt if I enjoy my work as the author. And I believe whether or not we love our work is important for success.
Not to be an average man but to be crazy
The author said
The average man is not successful.
I think this is true. In my understanding, that means that almost everyone can’t reach their goals. Therefore, the author argues that he is obsessed with his work and does not have to follow the rules that the majority of people make.
What do we like to buy?
What I think it’s a very simple but deep opinion is
I never tried to sell anything. ..I always offered a favor.
If you are a customer, would you like to hear a sales talk from a salesman?
I think No because people want to buy the product of their choice, but they don’t want to buy the product of their choice.
No proven way to success
I am impressed by the author’s word that
I have little respect for most theories of advertising because they have not been proved.
No one is walking in front of him because he is at the forefront. As a result, he cannot learn techniques from books or marketers. He had to do try & error to get the data in order to improve the efficiency of the ads and reduce waste.
I guess he made a lot of mistakes but he learn something from those mistakes. That’s the way of fighting the front line.
